The Sottimano Barbaresco winery is a true family affair. Rino and Anna built the new winery back in the sixties. Everything was organic, and the vineyards were of the highest quality. I first met their son Andrea about twenty years ago, and Federal was the first store in Massachusetts to carry these fantastic wines.
Today’s offer is for two single vineyard Barbarescos from the fantastic 2020 vintage. I will say that the Sottimano wines from this vintage are the best. The 2020 Sottimano Barbaresco Cotta and the 2020 Sottimano Barbaresco Fausoni show full phenolic ripeness, transparent fruit purity, and textural opulence. These wines result from ideal harvest conditions and display rich fruit tannins and perfect terroir tension.
2020 Sottimano Barbaresco Cotta: Bright ruby. Violets, ripe cherry, cinnamon. Dense and powerful with spice, mocha and earthy notes and a very long finish expressing gravitas. Outstanding 83/bottle
2020 Sottimano Barbaresco Fausoni: Bright ruby. Violet and rose with deep red berry. Notes of camphor and leather with real depth of texture. Masterful balance of fruit, acid, and tannin. Outstanding 83/bottle
