Rosé of Different Hues

Exploring the complexity of the many nuances of rosé, a delightful hot weather pastime.
July 13, 2022

A year more in the bottle made Ch. Pibarnon Rose was even better than my notes last week. It had gained structure and complexity. The most imposing rose of the tasting, it was more like a lighter red Bandol. Drink this with meat when it is too hot for red. It will easily develop another two or three years

Robert Foley's Hawksbill Rose is another rose for food. It showed rich on the palate with good weight and a panoply of different fruit notes. It was rich to the touch and very satisfying.

The 2021 Paul Thomas Sancerre Pinot Noir Rose opened funky and closed, But with air later in the tasting with air, it came into its own and became many people's favorite, with fruit so rich and ripe that some thought it a bit sweet.

The Copain Pinot Noir showed bright and lively right from the gate. It was several early tasters' favorite.

Although not lacking in fruit, the St Roseline was the most delicate and angular of the group. It was somewhat obscured by the fullness or vibrancy of the other wines. Some found it much to their taste.
