2024 Tiberio Trebbiano D’Abruzzo
Unmistakable Mineral Character
This is something special. Its rare grape Trebbiano Abruzzese is unique Abruzzo on Italy’s central Adriatic coast and has nothing to do with other Trebbianos. Its wine has an amazing combination of fleshy fruit concentration with a pure and focused minerality which makes for a fresh, crisp and absolutely irresistible wine.
Jancis Robinson - “It’s like a canvas revealing the mineral character rather than the fruit of the place of origin. Long and complex yet in a very subdued way. Will be fascinating to see how this ages.”
Aroma: Gala apples, peach, lemongrass, orange blossoms and spiced tea. Mouth: Vibrant fruit, mouthwatering acidity, crushed stone minerality and a long, clean finish that lingers with the flavors of a peach & citrus herbal tea. Very Good Plus $28.99, Case $24.99
2021 Tenuta La Ponca Sauvignon Blanc Collio
Italy’s Answer to Sancerre
With the vibrant aromatic combination of fruit, herbs and crushed stones this wine should appeal to lovers of Sancerre. In northeast Italy, Collio benefits of the merging of Alpine cool and Adriatic warm air giving it a continental climate continental climate like that of the Loire Valley. Combine that with the vineyard’s sand enveloping pockets of marl and silt. So you have a similar environment to Sancerre and vineyards are able to produce wines with Sancerre-like qualities.
Antonio Galloni Vinous - “The 2021 Sauvignon is sharply focused with a burst of savory herbs, lime zest and gooseberries forming its spicy bouquet. This displays silky, supple textures, blending ripe orchard fruits with sour citrus and mint. The 2021 finishes long and staining yet still remarkably fresh, leaving a pleasantly tart twang of sour melon.”
Aroma: Citrus, stonefruit, lemongrass, citrus peel, mint herbs, and very subtle flint. Mouth: Light and crisp, balanced acidity, crush stone minerality, fresh fruit and herbs, with a lifted and long elegant finish. Very Good- Excellent $53, Case $45
