Enrico Santini

Bolgheri is considered Tuscany’s answer to Napa, especially when its classic Sangiovese grape is blended with Cabernet and Merlot into what has become known as a Super Tuscan. Some, like Sassicaia, Ornellaia, and Guado al Tasso, have become legendary and command legendary prices. Since 1998, Enrico Santini, self-made owner and winemaker of Santini, has been changing the game with fine wines at more realistic prices.

Antonio Galloni recognized this in Vinous:

“In just a few years, Enrico Santini has emerged as one of Bolgheri's most promising producers. The wines are made with the assistance of consulting oenologist Attilio Pagli and are likely to get even better as these organically farmed vineyards gain age. This is another of the new, young estates that will be fascinating to follow over the next few years.”

2022 Santini Vignaiolo Poggio al Moro Bolgheri Rosso

I have offered the wines for years; it still amazes me that a wine from Bolgheri can drink so well and be so well-made at this price. The 2022 is no exception. It’s 30% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 10% Syrah, which work perfectly well and seamlessly, so no grape overpowers the others. Whether you’re trying a Bolgheri wine for the first time or are a seasoned fan, you can enjoy and afford this smooth, sophisticated rendition over and over again.

Aroma: Dark cherry, blackberry, cedar spice box, forest undergrowth. Mouth: Medium plus body, balanced acidity, firm tannins, mineral structure, and a long, elegant finish.  Very Good -Excellent $24.99, Case $21.49
