Firm Winter Reds

Perhaps in part due to the cold, tasters gravitated to the richer wines. Quite a number people found the 2014 Groundwork Mourvedre ntriguing. In a richer softer style it showed heady and changing streaks of anise, leather, and rich plum. It sold out at the tasting, but we have gotten more in to fill the orders that were placed.

The 2014 Tasca d’Almerita Nero d’Avola Lamuri was equally popular with its direct cherry-plum attack. Not quite so broad, it showed a more intense directness.

The St. Emilion-like 2015 Ch Laussac came close behind. Undeneath its strong oak notes, it showed a Merlot-Cabernet Franc richness and complexity that many found appealing. It will improve nicely over the next five years.

Each of the other three had its fans, The Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino so much that tasters and emailers ordered all we could get. The 2014 Domaine Mee Godard Morgon Grand Cras and 2015 Eraldo Revelli Dogliani Otto Filari were more linear in their presentation. Some tasters favored each for their precision.
