2008 + 2010 La Spinetta Langhe Bianco Sauvignon
Amazing Bottle for a Special Occasion
January 31, 2017
La Spinetta Langhe Bianco is a white wine that ages very well. It takes on the kind of complex exquisite aromas and flavors you only find in the greatest white wines produced in the world. We had one of my last bottles of the 2000 vintage at Christmas dinner and it continues to be unbelievable.
We are about to receive our allocation of both the 2008 and 2010 La Spinetta Langhe Bianco Sauvignon. These are both great vintages and the wines are just hitting the open window of drinkability. You can tell when you talk about this wine with owner Giorgio Rivetti that he is very happy to be able to produce it. While everything La Spinetta makes is worthy of superlatives, this one is truly a rare accomplishment.
Production is very small for this wine and only a few of Giorgio's friends get any of this. The cases come directly to us from the winery. We take these from La Spinetta when we feel they have entered the stage where they have gained the complexity of proper age and will have ten years or so left of prime drinkability. Both of these vintages display intense minerals, orange zest and sage. There are citrus notes with herbs and a fresh saline finish. Excellent acidity with great depth and texture.
